Forget-Me-Not History and LoreForget-me-nots are known for their delicate flowers that pop up in the early summer. They have been a symbol of remembrance and love throughout history and appear in a number of stories and lore. One of the most popular myths begins in the Garden of Eden. God had created and named all the flowers and as he was finishing, he heard one last flower shout “forget me not, lord!” Hearing the flower’s plea, God named it “forget-me-not” so it would never be overlooked. Another story depicts a French knight who was wooing a young woman. He knelt down at the edge of a river to pick her a dainty blue flower when he slipped, falling over the edge. As he was drawn away by the current, he threw the flower up at her yelling “forget me not!” No matter what story you decide to follow, forget-me-nots have been used as a sign of remembrance. Victorian Era poets and writers, in particular, were fond of incorporating forget-me-nots into their works, often using the flowers to represent undying love.
